Mondrian London opens September 2014

September sees one of the most highly anticipated hotel openings of the year, The Mondrian London, the first Mondrian property outside the US and the latest London outpost of the Morgans Hotel Group. Corporate travellers will be delighted to hear this hotel not only has a great location, in the landmark Sea Containers building on the southbank of the Thames, but that designer Tom Dixon is the creative mastermind behind the interiors, which combine his own industrial constructions with the glamour of vintage transatlantic ocean liners.

Guests will immediately be drawn to the giant, copper clad wall inspired by the hull of a ship, running from outside the building, through to the lobby and onto the river side of the hotel. Specialised treatments will be available at the agua Bathhouse & Spa, and food served at the riverside restaurant, where outdoor seating along the river walk will provide one of the best views in London.

The most glamorous of spaces will be the rooftop bar, with its glass box structure and outdoor terrace, featuring panoramic views over London. Uniquely reflecting the urban feel of the Southbank neighbourhood, Mondrian London is within walking distance of landmarks such as Tate Modern, Royal Festival Hall, the National and Globe theatres, as well as Borough Market and the London Eye.

Globe-Trotter launch new Propellor series

Globe-Trotter cases have been used over the last 117 years by an enviable client list. Captain Robert Falcon Scott travelled with Globe-Trotter on the infamous Antarctic expedition in 1912. Sir Winston Churchill used a Globe-Trotter Dispatch Case whilst he was Chancellor of the Exchequer in 1924.

Summer 2014 saw the launch of their Propellor range, crafted from Limonta canvas twill and bridle leather, with bespoke hand polished gilt hardware. Inside, each piece is finished with a fine cotton herringbone lining. The Limonta canvas twill has a special treatment applied to it which makes it water repellant, and the cotton lining has a waterproof resin finish.

The Propellor series is inspired by nostalgic adventure travel, and the items in the collection are reminiscent of travel from the start of Globe-Trotter’s history in the late 1800s, through to the 1930s. This was an era when travelling was all about adventure and exploring unknown corners of the globe.
